File name should be updated to match new versions.

Hi all, I wanted to follow up with this conversation. We know that different creators have different workflows around version naming. We wanted to get this group's opinion on a potential solve -- if we were to create a new property that appears at the top of the file below the "title" that is "version title" so that you can maintain a file name but also have a customizable version title below it, would that help meet your needs? Let us know!

Katie Ried I like this suggestion but i would reverse the display order.
Have the general customizable title be the top line, and then the version or the filename as below that. You could even just have the filename hidden but available in a 'properties' list/field. The client usually doesn't
care about the version, just that they know they are viewing the most current. The way i would use it them would be something like this:
General Title: My Video (updated 241004)
Filename: 12345_MyVideo_v05_241004.mp4
I personally would manually customize only the DATE in the (updated DATE) portion of the General title so if i uploaded another verison tomorrow, i would make it read My Video (updated 241005).
This would be so the client knows they are looking at today's version, and then the filename could just update in the background but be somewhere we can confirm it is indeed that version.

Katie Ried I’m all for sticking with the original request. It makes sense for the user to decide the version by choosing it in the video name before uploading, and then Dropbox Replay can just take that new file name as the updated version. Anything else feels like it should be a custom setup, not the default.

Katie Ried Alternatively, just have a checkbox to ask "Update Title to New Version?"

Original file name should match version

The file name should correlate with whatever version is displayed. Like "song title-01.02.22 would be the first version. then I upload version 2 the new tile would be "song title-01.06.22' and when ever you switch to hear or compare versions you can see the full file name associated with that version.

Bumping this, as it's an absolute nuisance when working with large quantities of files. Look at the behavior of your competitor. This is not an issue I faced with Frame.io.

Asset Name Updates after New Version Upload/Stacked

It would be wonderful if when you upload a new version to a file/asset stack, that the header or title of the asset changes to the new name. For example:
First uploaded file:
ClientABC_IntroVideo_v01_240222.mp4
Second uploaded file:
ClientABC_IntroVideo_v02_240223.mp4
If we could have a setting that makes it so by default, the asset name is updated to the most recent file you uploaded, this would remove one manual step in our current process (right now, we use the RENAME function, and COPY/PASTE the newest uploaded filename to change it).

Agreed. When using the integrated versions its too easy to lose sight of the original file.

If this is too much work atm,a simple fix would be that the File info of versions pop up should keep the original filename upon uploading. This is super important for postproduction teams.

Agree - "If the file info showed the original filename it would help me keep track of revisions. I'm always asking the question - 'is this the right version i've updated? I can look at when I updated the version, and when it was viewed, but I can't see what that original filename was. If I could know the original filename it would help with version confusion. It would be great to know that he sent me his version 3 on this date, but when it landed in Dropbox Replay it was our version 2."

Agree. Version Numbers should either be editable or match the filename. Would be great to have options.
